James McQueen

British, b. 1977

Working under a pseudonym, James McQueen is a British artist known for his painted reinterpretations of well-known images, such as the Penguin Books logo on fabricated, satirical covers, infused with a sense of humor and irony.

His style is marked by vibrant colors and textures, drawing inspiration from vintage book covers, Pop art, and graffiti art. Another recurring element in his work is a Banksy-inspired monkey motif, through which he explores themes of anonymity.

McQueen’s work touches on social and political issues, as seen in his response to the coronavirus pandemic, with some pieces supporting charitable causes like the NHS. McQueen has had several solo and group exhibitions, including at Halcyon Gallery in London.
